A personal story of how intention, alignment and the Holistic Life Map has transformed my life - again and again.
A journey guided by intention
Since creating my first Holistic Life Map in November 2005, I’ve experienced again and again how clarity of intention, paired with decisive action, can unlock extraordinary opportunities and this is often in rapid and unexpected ways.
When we take aligned action, life responds - often faster than we expect.
The Milestones
🧭 2006 - The leap from Gone Rural
In December 2006, I made the decision to leave my role at Gone Rural as I felt that I had reached my professional growth glass ceiling. I didn't have a next step in mind, or a next job lined up. I just knew, in my heart, that it was time to move on. Within one week, I was presented with the first of three unexpected opportunities which brought me consulting roles with the International Finance Corporation and then TechnoServe and Vital Voices Global Partnership in quick succession.
It was as though the universe had been waiting for me to say “yes” to myself.
The Life Map has also had ripple effects in my life in unexpected ways.
🌿2007 – Launching the Gone Rural boMake Foundation
In 2007, I launched the Gone Rural boMake Foundation - a grassroots initiative created to provide holistic social support to the rural women artisans of Gone Rural and their families in Eswatini. We knew that each of our 700+ women artisans was supporting an average of 7 to 8 orphans and vulnerable children (OVC’s) and so we had the potential of indirectly supporting over 5,000 people with programs focused on HIV/AIDS awareness and support, clean water access, sustainable agriculture, education on the constitution and women’s rights, and more. It was a deeply personal mission born out of a desire to serve.
🌍 2011 – Coca-Cola Africa Foundation
Then, in late 2011, I was offered a position with the Coca-Cola Africa Foundation as the Program Manager. I went from grassroots development to overseeing continent-wide programs in water, health, and education in partnership with organizations in 42 countries. It was a powerful reminder that when you start something that is in alignment with your purpose, the world often responds by expanding your reach.
🚪 2012 – Closing One Door, Opening Another
Another pivotal moment came in October 2012, when I resigned from Coca-Cola Africa Foundation without having a next job lined up. Just one day later, I received a phone call from Vital Voices with a new opportunity that set me on a path to relocate to Washington, D.C., to join Vital Voices in a new global role. I just needed to close that one door for the next opportunity to come into my life.
💡 2008 to 2012 – From Local Mentorship to Global Mentoring
How this is remarkable to me is that in 2008, I had co-founded a mentoring program for young women at high school leaving age in Eswatini. In this new opportunity to join Vital Voices in late 2012, I would head up a department which included leading and overseeing two global mentoring initiatives, pairing emerging women leaders from around the world with Fortune 500 executives - essentially scaling up a dream that I first articulated in my home country.
🌐 2025 – The Life Map Becomes the Mission
Most recently, in January 2025, after I left my full-time role at Vital Voices, I established a new consulting business in which the Holistic Life Map is a cornerstone of my offerings. Three months later, I was invited to design a proposal to bring this methodology to 80,000 employees across 11 countries for a global corporation.
Again, it wasn’t coincidence. It was clarity in motion.
Clarity is the First Step to Transformation
